September in St. Paul The 2007 M.I. Hummel Club Convention September 6 - 9, 2007
The sun shone, the Mississippi sparkled, and the Club members gathered. For the members, friends and family that convened at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront in St. Paul, MN, the sunshine outside hinted at the happy atmosphere inside.
This was the eighth North American M.I. Hummel Club Convention, a delightful blending of old and new. Longtime friends delighted in each other's company, celebrating the tradition of craftsmanship and collaboration that brings M.I. Hummel figurines to the world.
And so much was new, whether convention-goers were meeting the newest member of the Convent of Siessen's Artistic Board or participating in new activities - sharing their opinions in Focus Groups and making new discoveries at Local Chapter seminars, run by members for members.
The People
Sister Anja Popp and Sister Claudia-Maria Mühlherr traveled to St. Paul from the Convent of Siessen. Sister Anja is a well-known and welcome friend, and Sister Claudia-Maria is a convention newcomer who brings enthusiasm to her role as head of the Artistic Board. Also on hand, officials and artists from Goebel Porzellanmanufaktur in Germany, and an energetic convention team from Goebel North America.
An interesting contrast: 118 Charter members came to St. Paul -- and so did an lively 11-year old member, attending her very first convention! Plus we welcomed 4 members from Germany and Switzerland, and hundreds of others united in their love of M.I. Hummel… and good times.
The Activities
This year's seminars whisked attendees around the world - to Hong Kong on a hunt for rare figurines… to Rödental to learn how figurines are made… to Siessen for a meeting with members of the Covent and Goebel recreating the figurine approval process. There were crafts and comedy, dancing and dining, plus an instant-win raffle and a live auction that raised $32,888 for the Childrens' Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota, demonstrating the generosity that is a vital part of our Club.
The Shopping
No visit to St. Paul would be complete without a trip to the Mall of America - members shuttled back and forth during the weekend. And no convention would be complete without a shopping spree at the Goebel Convention Store offering members-only discounts. One of the most popular items: a 2007 Club Convention Exclusive figurine, Hummel-Hummel.
The Gifts
Every attendee went home with an authentic M.I. Hummel figurine, Loads of Fun (Hum 2156) to remember how much they enjoyed themselves. Local Chapter members went home with an extra gift, Girl with Sheet Music (Hum 389).
And we all went home with memories… newfound knowledge… and anticipation - the next M.I. Hummel Club North American Convention is now in the planning stages and the location is soon to be announced!
